As part of a community of practice at Adelaide Trauma Centre we have reflected on recent developments at Boston Trauma Centre relating to allegations of bullying by Bessel Van Der Kolk and sexual misconduct by Joe Spinazzola.

We acknowledge as therapists working with clients we share the experience of being in relationship with power – and in therapeutic moments, when we meet with clients we are in relationship with power and privilege.

As a trauma therapy practice we are reminded of the explicit need to engage in our own and shared reflective practice and examination of our own and shared blind spots in relation to power.

We have an intention and commitment to use and relate to power in a way that moves toward cultivating mindful awareness, compassion and connection.

From all of us at ATC
